LABOR DAY WEEKEND REFUGE RETREAT

This year’s Labor Day retreat held September 1-4 had over 20 participants. The teachings the entire weekend were spent on refuge and the qualities of the Three Jewels.

Over the course of the retreat, Venerable Chodron asked the retreatants to examine their lives very honestly and to see what worldly things they take refuge in rather than the Buddha, Dharma and Sangha.

For many it was an eye opening experience as each one shared how they distract themselves from truly knowing themselves and relying on the Three Jewels with work, food, movies, shopping etc...

The teachings gave the participants new ways to relate to the Three Jewels in order to deepen their faith and confidence in them. It was a fruitful and powerful weekend for many and many folks left with deeper dharma understandings as well as new dharma friendships.

Retreatants gather in the lovely sun-filled meditation hall for the first day of teachings.
AraJo takes notes during the teachings for future studying.
Tom from Missoula is a long time student of Venerable’s. He shared with us the benefit his practice receives from attending retreats.
Pat, a neighbor and volunteer at the abbey attends his first retreat. His warm open heart was a joy to be around.
Venerable inspired the students with her teachings on the qualities of the Buddha.
The retreat ended with a refuge ceremony. Blessings to (left to right) Lydie, Mary, KayDee, AraJo, Bonnie, and Tree (taking the picture).
