ASPIRATION BUDDHA MONUMENT
When Sravasti Abbey found its home in 2003, hundreds of Founding Donors made offerings to purchase the land and buildings and to launch the Abbey's programs. At that time, we committed to creating a sacred place to enshrine the aspirations of those donors.

Over the summer and fall of 2007, the Aspiration Buddha monument came into being on the site of the former garden gazebo.
Dechen Smith designed and built the beautiful Buddha house as an offering.

Many hands took part in building the foundation and preparing the circumambulation path.
The golden Buddha radiates light throughout the garden and faces down the valley toward Spokane, the largest population center in the Abbey's region.
About 85 prayers of aspirations, submitted by Sravasti Abbey's Founding Donors and supporters, are now preserved in the base of the Aspiration Buddha.
Here's what our friends from Shasta Abbey wrote:
'When Indra pointed a blade of grass at the earth, a magnificent temple sprang up on that very spot; so, too, wherever a true heart exists, the Dharma springs up also.'
Thus, Sravasti Abbey has been born. We pray that the Venerable Abbess, and the monastic and lay communities which emanate from Sravasti Abbey, will bring innumerable beings to take refuge in the Buddhadharma. We pray that the Venerable Abbess and Founder will continue in good health, so that she may continue her teaching for many years to come. We pray for a thriving monastic community of both female and male monastics. We pray that innumerable upasikas and upasakas will take refuge at Sravasti Abbey. We pray that donors and believers will continue to help and support Sravasti Abbey so that it may continue for a thousand years. May all beings take refuge in the Three Jewels.
