| THE ABBEY GAZEBO IS TAKEN DOWN
The gazebo, the abbey’s outdoor covered eating area was discovered this summer to be structurally unsound. The original cedar beams holding up the roof were rotting at ground level. After being braced as a safety measure through most of the summer, volunteer and local neighbor Jason Lund spent 2 days dismantling the structure. Some of the wood has been hauled away but a number of the framing members will be re-used. Next summer the abbey hopes to have the concrete base repaired and expanded and a new roof put on. A railing to insure a safer outdoor area for eating will also be added. Underneath the gazebo is the root cellar where the apples, pumpkins, and dry goods get stored to be enjoyed by the folks participating in the 3 month winter retreat. Thank you Jason!
