November 2007
Dear Friend,
High on a hill in eastern Washington State, a small community is training their minds towards peace.
The growing resident community of Sravasti Abbey practices to develop love, compassion, and wisdom for the benefit of all beings. We know that you, too, wish these things for yourself, your loved ones, and for the planet. We also know your life is full of all the other things necessary to survive. So the Abbey practices on your behalf. And they live on the kind offerings of the people who share their values.
We—the Leadership Team for Friends of Sravasti Abbey—are writing today to catch you up on how the Abbey has helped others this year. We are also inviting you to make a year-end financial offering to support the values you hold so dear.
Welcoming Guests
“Sravasti Abbey is a place of exquisite beauty . . . I have loved and cherished every moment of every day here. The work has been joyful and practicing with the community has been a precious gift. I feel so different internally that I can hardly recognize myself.” Dallas Becker, Edmonton, Alberta
Sravasti Abbey has hosted well over 300 visits this year. Some people come to stay a few months. Some come for only a few hours, but virtually all of them talk about how they are changed by spending time at the Abbey.
Through your generosity, we will continue to keep the doors open, never charging for room, board, or teachings. We welcome those who wish to benefit from the Abbey, and invite everyone to give as generously as they can.
Helping Inmates
“(Sravasti Abbey) reached out to us as fellow sentient beings. Not as monsters or thugs or criminals, but as human beings. A beacon of light, love, and compassion that illuminated my seemingly dark prison world.” Daniel Dimitrov, Cleveland, Ohio
The Abbey is in contact with more than 150 prison inmates through a prison Dharma newsletter, personal correspondence, and personal visits. Right now, during the month of November, more than 60 of them are joining the Medicine Buddha Retreat from Afar, spending at least one meditation session a day to take the Dharma medicine that will transform their minds.
With your support, we will continue to write, visit, teach, and practice with them. Click here for next page >>> |
