VENERABLE CHODRON IN THAILAND
FALL 2005

At the direction of one of her Tibetan lamas, Ven. Chodron visited Thailand to learn more about the Dharma as practiced in the Theravadin tradition. She stayed about two weeks at Wat Marp Jan, a monastery in the jungle of southern Thailand, where she received teachings on the four foundations of mindfulness from Ajahn Anand.

Ajahn Anand taught a small group of people in the evenings on a veranda outside the office.
Tan Sukhitto kindly translated the teachings into English.
Ajahn Anand is a wonderful teacher.

The monks live in indivuals kutis or cabins, where they do their meditation practice.
Hwee Leng and Soon Ann, Venerable's friends from FOSA in Singapore, transcribe the teachings in the outdoor kitchen area.
Monks fill their bowls with the food offered on almsround and food brought to the temple by lay devotees.
