MAKING A FOREST CONNECTION WITH THE CARMELITES
OCTOBER - 2005

The Sravasti Abbey community made a strong connection to the Carmelite sisters in the Newport area in October.

Sr. Nancy one of the residents at the Carmelite hermitage has been implementing a kind and careful approach to caring for the 115 acres of forest and land the sisters own and really inspired us. She and Sr. Leslie gave us a lot of encouragement and advised us to take our time making our decisions on caring for the abbey's land.

There were many similarities in our spiritual views as well as views on community life. We look forward to developing this mutually beneficial relationship

Jan, Joan and Nanc listen to some of Sister Nancy (that's her on the right!) ideas about forest stewardship at the Carmelite hermitage outside of Newport.
This is the main cabin for the Carmelite sisters. It contains a kitchen, library, office and small chapel.
