Sukhavati – Pure Land of Great Bliss

"Life is so fragile, its nature is transitory. It is easy to see how it changes in only one year, a month, a week, a day, an hour, a minute, and second by second. Why should I be surprised that life changes so much?"

Lama Zopa Rinpoche

Sukhavati – Pure Land of Great Bliss

Many people have asked about having their cremation ashes or those of their deceased loved ones scattered at Sravasti Abbey. We have set aside an accessible place in the forest to do this, calling it Sukhavati, the Land of Great Bliss.

Named for Amitabha Buddha’s pure land, Sukhavati is located on a ridge with a spectacular view. It has a Buddha statue and a bench where people can sit and contemplate.

In Amitabha’s pure land, all conditions are conducive to practicing the Dharma. By maintaining good ethical conduct and making strong prayers, even ordinary people can be reborn there.

Please contact us to find out more about end-of-life planning and the Abbey’s Sukhavati.
