Quickly be freed from their illness, And may every disease in the world
Never occur again"

Sangha Medical Fund (en Español)
It's no secret that healthcare is very expensive in the U.S. Insurance is usually covered by the employer, but when you're a monastic, you need to find ways to take care of that yourself. Friends of Sravasti Abbey Singapore (FOSAS) have launched a Sangha Medical Fund to make sure the Abbey's monastics are covered if they don't have the personal resources to take care of themselves.
Friends of Sravasti Abbey Singapore is a dynamic group that wants to help the Buddha's precious teachings spread in the West and benefit people. The group was begun by some of the polytechnic students whom Ven. Chodron taught in 1987-8 when she lived in Singapore. They began www.thubtenchodron.org when the Internet was just coming into being (little did they know how the website would grow and reach people all over the world who do not have access to Dharma teachings where they live). Then they invited Ven. Chodron to teach in Singapore and organize her annual trips there. The group has grown with new, friendly faces coming to help

Friends of Sravasti Abbey Singapore 2010
During Ven. Chodron's 2010 trip, a volunteer from Pureland Marketing--a group that sponsors Ven.'s teachings--created a series of beautiful, handmade lotus flowers to decorate the stage. The lotus in the header has the eight auspicious signs, and each of the lotuses had a colored candle in its center. They were offered to the Abbey, but too fragile to transport to the US.
So FOSA Singapore members thought about what to do. They said, "We have helped Sravasti Abbey with three of the four requisites of life--food, shelter, and clothing--but so far we haven't helped with medicine. How about if the lotuses form the foundation of a Sangha Medical Fund?"
They announced this to the audience at a retreat and encouraged them to make donations for this purpose, giving the beautiful lotuses as gifts. In this way, they offered approximately $3140 to the fledgling Sangha Medical Fund.
Those of you who live around the world and care about the health of the Sangha may want to join us and contribute to the Sangha Medical Fund. Click here to Donate and enter Sangha Medical Fund in the comments box.
