Autumn at the Abbey

Autumn at the Abbey (en Español)

Back to 2011 Gallery

Summer came late to the Abbey, and so far, autumn is taking its time also. Slowly the trees are turning, the fruit is ripening, and the small creatures are getting ready for winter. The quietude is as stunning as a walk through the Abbey forest and gardens, which helps to calm the mind and generate gratitude for all we have

The apples, which will be stored for winter eating, wait for the first good frost to sweeten them.

The delicate bright foliage of “Burning Bush.”

This little chipmunk is feasting on sunflower seeds found in our vegetable garden.

Like our minds, the vast blue sky and sun appear from behind the dark clouds.

A walk on quiet Middle Way.

A very old birch snag is home to many cavity dwellers

The new forest thinning project brings sunlight to a previously darkened forest floor. This particular stand has some trees that are 18-20” in diameter and very healthy.

The meadow below the forest thinning.

The gentle turning of larch, birch, and aspen trees brings a glow to the landscape.

A once stricken tree stands at Sukhavati, a reminder of our own impermanence and death.
