Fire Puja Ends Retreat

Fire Puja Ends Retreat (en Español)

Back to 2011 Gallery

The traditional ending of a retreat at the Abbey is always the purification practice of Dorje Khadro. It is a powerful practice where all our negativities since beginningless time are purified by imagining them being cast into a black sesame seed scorpion and fed to Dorje Khadro, a wrathful compassionate aspect of the Buddha. One feels so light and joyful afterwards.

Jon, Maebel, and Kennyru put up the altar.

From near and far. Tanya is from Washington State and Kennyru is from Singapore.

Maebel, Sarah, and Kennyru recite the purification
mantra together.

Every last sesame seed is found and offered into the fire.

Ven. Chodron leads the dedication of merit at the end of the puja.

A happy purified group for sure!
