The Buddha Moves to the ForestThe Buddha Moves to the Forest (en Español)Back to 2010 GalleryThe Abbey pet memorial ground now has a Buddha watching over it. After Achala’s death and burial, the Abbey community decided that a forest Buddha would be auspicious for all the forest creatures. So David, one of the Abbey’s friends, helped Ven. Semkye install a sturdy pedestal for the statue. Using cedar, building tar, copper, and granite- materials that can withstand the sometimes harsh climate at the Abbey, David carefully placed the structure above the burial plots.. The presence of the Buddha immediately changed the energy in that area of the forest. May all the beings that see the Buddha have precious human rebirths. ![]() The Buddha arrives and Ven. Chodron and Ven. Semkye unwrap the statue. ![]() “Safety first,” as the Buddha is fastened into the front seat of the truck. ![]() David rides in the back to help prevent the shifting of the cedar timbers. ![]() Carefully, David carries the logs to the site. ![]() David digs a hole three feet deep to secure the pedestal. ![]() The copper wire keeps the three logs secure and straight. ![]() David attaches the granite base to insure the stability of the platform. ![]() The Buddha seems to be right at home and blends in with the forest environment. ![]() Some of the Abbey community officially welcomes the Buddha to his new home.
