Abbey Life – The Coming of Spring

Abbey Life – The Coming of Spring (en Español)

Back to 2010 Gallery

Immediately after the winter retreat the Abbey swings back into the public activities of sharing the Dharma—at the Abbey, in our local community, over the Internet, and wherever we are invited to teach. Spring is also the time we start the many outdoor activities of caring for the land and grounds.

A longtime friend and benefactor, Alice (center) brings her friend Tammi to early morning practice and to offer food for the community. They are our first visitors after retreat.

Tsundru has done a beautiful job of organizing the
shop and barn. Along with Bob and Ven. Jampel,
he carefully stores a burned out stump that we found
in the forest, a relic from the 1910 fire that ravaged
this region.

Look at this tidy shop!

this is one of Lama Yeshe’s slogans that Ven. Chodron remembers from many years ago.
The sign reminds all those in the shop to recall their purpose.

Volunteers Judy and Tracy join Ven. Tarpa and Geshe Thupten Phelgye for a prison
Dharma visit at Airway Heights Correctional Center.

Ven. Jampel checks the pipes and parts before
beginning to install the plumbing for the
new retreat cabin.

We renew ties with many Dharma friends who come for our first Sharing the
Dharma Day of 2010.

On behalf of the community, Ven. Chonyi accepts Damian’s offering. His grandparents,
Stan and Jocelyn, helped to organize an Abbey table at the Compassion in Action
volunteer fair in Spokane.

Ven. Chodron joins Spokane Rotarian John Hancock to present an idea for promoting compassion throughout the Spokane area.

Many helping hands quickly fill the raised beds to prepare the Abbey’s vegetable garden
for spring planting.
