Abbey Life - April

Abbey Life - April (en Español)

Spring is slowly coming to the Abbey, and more of our offering service activities move outdoors. We are happy to welcome guests and the first spring blossoms!

A spring sunrise over Gotami House warms the morning chill.

Will Olson is working on the renewed spring forest clean-up activities. A beekeeper and computer whiz, Will also has logging experience and we are grateful for his sawyer skills.

Like other members of the community, Venerable Tarpa enjoys working in the forest.

Spokane Dharma friends Lin and Joy bring their new pup to
Ven. Chodron for a pet blessing.

Bob, who is traveling to various monasteries to explore monastic traditions and trainings, stayed with us for a month. He gets some parting advice from Ven. Chodron.

Bob and Tsundru build new supports for our mailbox.

These daffodils have been swelling day by day, waiting for this first warm and sunny day to burst into bloom.

Anemones seem so coy and quiet it’s a delight to discover them blooming in a less-frequented corner of the Abbey’s gardens.

Ven. Jigme and Ven. Jampel place Kwan Yin under the willow tree outside of Venerable’s writing studio. The statue is a gift to Ven. Chodron from the 3-month winter retreatants.

Members of the Abbey community join Geshe Phelgye, the interfaith club from Eastern Washington University, and the local Muslim congregation for a prayer service at the Spokane Islamic Center. Out of respect for the Moslem culture, Ven. Chonyi wears long-sleeves over her robes while in the mosque.
