GESHE SOPA'S FIRST VISIT
GESHE SOPA'S FIRST VISIT
(April 26th - May 8th 2009) Back to 2009 Gallery
We were very happy when Geshe Sopa, author of Peacock in the Poison Grove, accepted our invitation to teach on Santideva’s Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, Chapter 6: Patience. We had many out of town guests including four Bhikshunis of the Chinese Chan tradition.

The resident community patiently awaits Geshe-la’s arrival.

The residents take turns paying respects to Geshe-la before the teachings begin.

Venerable Jampel gives Geshe Sopa and his attendant, Venerable Chowang, a tour of the Abbey grounds.

Many people came from all over to receive Geshe-la’s teachings on patience.

Geshe-la’s sense of humor made Shantideva’s text very accessible.

We all benefited from his clear explanation.

Geshe Sopa admires the view from the writing studio.

We offered a mandala prior to and at the end of the teachings. Here Geshe-la receives the Buddha’s body, speech, and mind.

At the end of the teachings, we recite sincere prayers for Geshe Sopa’s long life.

We are so grateful to have received these teachings.
