EXPLORING MONASTIC LIFE PROGRAM BEGINS

EXPLORING MONASTIC LIFE PROGRAM BEGINS

Back to 2009 Gallery

For the 5th year, Sravasti Abbey is holding its Exploring Monastic Life program for those wishing to explore their aspirations to ordain. The participants integrate into the Abbey community by following a schedule that includes practice, offering service, Dharma discussions, and teachings. Check out how they’re doing.

Venerable Jampel and Kathleen wait for the group discussion to begin.

Katya harvests apples for the yearly tradition of
making the Abbey’s now famous applesauce.

Four hands are better than two as Michael and Katya slice and prepare the apples for cooking.

Michael’s ready for knapweed patrol, which is best done in the early morning hours.

The daily group discussions present everyone an opportunity to look at beliefs and ideas that encourage or get in the way of monastic aspirations.

Venerable Chodron, Tsundru, and Michael head a reconnaissance mission to uproot knapweed at the farthest reaches of the Abbey forest.

Ven. Semkye and Tsundru share some precious Dharma friendship time.

Recovering from a recent illness and hospital stay, Venerable Semkye spends her time in the quiet of the Gotami House library.

Dallas, Kathleen, Katya, and Michael,—affectionately called the “knapweeders”— pose in the bright blue outdoors before returning to the Abbey.
