Gotami April Update

Gotami April Update

Back to 2009 Gallery

Spring is finally in the air and Gotami House continues to change day by day into a beautiful residence. Led by Venerable Jampel, the Abbey community and local volunteers are doing as many aspects of the finish work as possible.

We are also blessed with the skill and expertise of Carl Willmott, Venerable Jampel’s father and a contractor who helped us to remodel the Abbey kitchen last year, and Jim Tally, a volunteer who is a skilled woodworker. The rough unfinished interior is turning into a bright and comfortable living space. Take a look!

The laminated floating floor starts to take shape.

Nancy, a volunteer from Spokane, carefully removes the masking tape from the front door. Five coats of lacquer will protect the door from the diverse and sometimes extreme weather conditions we have at the Abbey.

We like to give tours to our visitors! Here Venerable Jendy and the bhikshunis, who came to help with Venerable Jigme?s ordination, see the most recent work done on Gotami. They are very happy to see a home for the Sangha.

Mentoring comes in many ways.
Venerable Jampel, a Dharma friend to 14 year old
Journey, gives him a lesson on how to hang a door.
It helps to have concentration and patience!

Jim Tally applies his craftsmanship and ingenuity to a difficult design challenge presented by the hand rail running on the right side of the staircase.

Carl, Venerable Jampel's father, helps place the cabinetry in a number of key areas in the house.

The small kitchenette downstairs will supply a place to cook meals when monastics are ill and cannot walk to the kitchen in the main house. This space will also serve as a yoga room.

The glass block placed in the upstairs hallway floor will provide light to the downstairs hallway. Light from skylights directly above the glass blocks supply the natural light.
