Harmonious EML 08A HARMONIOUS EML COMMUNITYBack to 2008 GalleryThe second week of Exploring Monastic Life brings new opportunities to practice, offer service, and share heart-felt aspirations. The days are filled with laughter, silence, cooperation, and friendship. All of us get to watch our minds as a diverse group of personalities work, live, and practice together under the compassionate and wise eye of Venerable Chodron. Dharma discussions, walks in the forest, and wonderful teachings on the Buddha and the first monastics keep us inspired. May we all nurture seeds to ordain now or in the future ![]() Every morning participants get a chance to ask Venerable questions about monastic life. ![]() The group celebrates Tsog together on the new moon. It is a party for the Buddhas. ![]() Venerable Semkye reads the list of benefactors that have contributed to the Abbey for the month. We dedicate the merit of our practices to their health and happiness. ![]() Venerable Chonyi and Jampel get some study time after evening practice. ![]() Group discussions begin with some thought provoking questions from Venerable Chodron. We then each get to share our insights and reflections on those questions. This is one of our favorite parts of EML. ![]() Rainbows can be auspicious signs. The group agrees. ![]() Venerable Jampel replaces the radiator in the Abbey’s little white truck with Karen’s assistance. With only one set of robes, a monk has to be careful! ![]() The beautiful old barn gets a fresh coat of wood oil to preserve the cedar plank siding. ![]() A rainy day does not hinder the firewood crew as it unloads wood gathered from the Abbey's forests. ![]() Kathleen enjoys pulling knapweed.
