GOTAMI CONSTRUCTION MOVES INDOORS

The timing couldn’t be more perfect. As the temperatures falls below zero, Thomas’ crew finishes the outside just in time. The roofers astound us by getting the roofing on in not quite 3 days, and John finishes some of the last bit of drainage work before the deep freeze. The drywall crew is almost done hanging the sheetrock. The mudding, taping and texturing will begin this week. The work will continue through the winter months as the Abbey community takes turns offering service to keep things running smoothly. Gotami House is looking like a home more every day!

The fiber/cement siding is complete and looks fabulous with the dark brown trim.

A close up of the roofing with the solar tube in the background. The tube will cast light inside the hallway as you come through the front door.

The Abbey residents place fiberglass insulation in between all the interior walls as a sound proofing measure.

No its not something from outer space. Its the insulation company employee spraying the foam insulation on the inside of the exterior walls. The insulation will result in a big energy savings on heating.

The insulation before it gets shaved flush to the wall studs.

The finished walls

The insulation debris is vacuumed up into large bags which can be sold to use for crawl spaces and attics.

Even as the rooms take shape, one can't help but be drawn to the beautiful
view.

With the sheet rock hung, the dark rooms and hallways begin to reflect the sun. Once the drywall is hung the tapers will arrive and begin mudding and texturing.

Venerable Jampel takes a count of where all the light fixtures will be hung.

Considering how big the building is, the Abbey residents have managed to keep the construction waste to a minimum. Much of the wood scraps have been cut for kindling or stored for use on the retreat cabin. Metal, plastic, and cardboard are recycled also.

Parker, Travis and James are the backbone of Thomass crew. The respect and care they have for each other is evident in the way they pull together when things don't go as planned.

Quiet and unassuming, Dave takes care of all the things most folks can miss and has a great talent (and patience) for detail.

Top Dog Roofing did a quick but thorough job on the roofing. We have been fortunate to have many good subcontractors. They had the roof done in 3 days even after a heavy frost. Thank you guys!
