SRAVASTI ABBEY DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT

The Friends of Sravasti Abbey Board is seeking a motivated individual to design and implement a plan for inviting generosity to sustain operations and lay the groundwork for a 2008 capital campaign. The emphasis is on expanding existing donor base, enhancing the major donor category, and increasing donor communication. The ideal candidate has

  • a minimum of 5 years experience in development,
  • excellent writing skills,
  • and the ability to travel.
  • An interest and/or knowledge of Buddhism is a plus.

The job is full time and requires the development director to work closely with the Venerable Chodron and the Abbey community. Therefore, the director is expected to live in the Spokane, Washington area.

The salary is competitively based on experience.

A nonprofit religious organization, Sravasti Abbey is governed by the guidelines Shakyamuni Buddha laid out for Buddhist monastics; hence the Abbey operates entirely on the generosity of its supporters. The Friends of Sravasti Abbey have implemented the “inviting generosity” program since the Abbey was founded in 2003, and donors have been generous. However, as the Abbey’s growing program requires expanding its facilities, we have recognized the need for a development professional.
