LAMA TSONG KHAPA DAY(en Español)

For the past four years the Abbey has celebrated Lama Tsong Khapa Day to commemorate the life of one of the greatest teachers, meditators and authors of the Dharma in Tibet if not the world.

This year the Abbey residents and a few hardy local residents braved a bitterly cold evening to share this wonderful night. We celebrated Tsog, and then walked with candles to the aspiration Buddha statue in the garden. There we all circumambulated the statue while chanting the beautiful prayer in honor of Lama Tsong Khapa. We ended the ceremony with personal dedications to peace in the world and the flourishing of the Dharma in the west.

Festive offerings of lights, food, incense, water, scented oils, and music are arranged around our statue of Lama Tsong Khapa. We also offer some of the Abbey's abundance to the Buddhas. Later, we will donate some of the offerings to our local food bank.

Candles gracing the altar as the ceremony begins.

The Tsog begins.

Tracy, one of the Abbey's long time friends, waits with her candle for the procession to begin from the meditation hall to the garden.

The wind is blustery and we must frequently relight our candles.

The procession moves slowly through the darkness.

As we enter the garden the Buddha statue is seen here in the distance as a small golden light.

Carl ponders the Buddha.
