IT’S ALWAYS SOMETHING IN SAMSARA

Three weeks before the 3 month retreat and Geshe Tegchok’s arrival to teach Nagarjuna’s Precious Garland, the abbey found itself with a water line break under the house.

After 2 weeks without much water in the house, the plumbers came dug a 4 foot ditch almost around the entire house replacing a 25 year old water line as well as re-routing the line on the interior. After a water line break in the new system from a faulty part flooded the utility room, tea room and part of the office, we now have water back on.

The flooring will have to be replaced in the spring after the retreat by the plumbing company. All in all, everyone at the abbey had a good sense of humor about it (as did the plumbers!). And thanks to all of our supporters we will be able to address this unexpected expense.

Mark digs by hand around the electrical and the septic lines.
Mark works close to Kurt the backhoe operator as he digs ahead of him
Kurt digs a 4’ deep trench around most of the main house. They won’t freeze that far down.
Once the trench is dug the pipe is quickly laid.
Lannie, the master plumber consults with Venerable Tarpa who oversees the work.
The ditch filled in and the frozen ground leveled as best as possible, the abbey will now have to grade and re-seed the lawn near the house as well as gravel part of the drive. Any volunteers?
