LAMA TSONG KHAPA DAY AND PUJA FOR BENEFACTORS
Lama Tsongkhapa Day celebrates the life and teachings of the founder of the Gelug tradition and includes a candlelight procession, symbolizing the light of wisdom that his teachings ignite in us. After doing the Lama Chopa Puja, the Abbey community read aloud the names of people who have supported the Abbey in the last two months. Following the Asian tradition of making offerings to the sangha and requesting them to pray for the donors’ well-being, our Singaporean friends had asked that we dedicate for their long life, good health, harmonious relationships, dispelling of obstacles, and success, as well as for the good rebirth of their loved ones. We also dedicated for the happiness of all our benefactorsAmerican and internationalwho enable the Abbey to spread the Dharma in a world that needs the peace and wisdom that Buddha’s teachings bring.

Lama Tsongkhapa would be overjoyed to see how many people support and feel connected to the Abbey. The names of donors and all those for whom we were requested to pray are on the gold and red-bordered sheets on the wall behind Je Rinpoche. The list continued on another wall of the meditation hall as well, with over 800 names from Singapore alone.

We read aloud the names of all our donors and all those for whom we were requested to pray. The previous week, the FOSA Board also did puja and read the names aloud. The Board members commented how connected they felt to the Singaporeans and how grateful they were to all the Abbey’s kind donors, here and abroad.

People from all over came to live in community with the Abbey residents during Khensur Jampa Tegchok’s teachings and gathered to do the Lama Chops Puja together. It’s a beautiful ceremony and when done with a lot of joy generates huge amounts of positive potential, which we dedicated to the happiness of all beings.
