Winter Retreat — Green Tara & Lamrim
One-month retreat: Dec 14 - Jan 13
Three-month retreat: Dec 14 - March 10
Tara is the feminine embodiment of enlightenment, especially representing the enlightening influence by which Buddhas act to benefit and guide us.
Relying on Tara achieves the ultimate purpose of freeing us from all sufferings — such as the cycle of aging, sickness, death, and rebirth — and their causes: delusion and karma and the negative imprints they leave on our mental continuum, bringing us to the ever-lasting happiness of liberation and enlightenment.
Long retreat gives the opportunity to reflect on the steps of the gradual path and to deepen our relationship with the Three Jewels. The Abbey offers an excellent retreat environment that includes a peaceful setting, a disciplined retreat structure, qualified spiritual guidance, and a supportive practice community.
Interested? There's more detailed information on these pages:
To apply for the one-month or three-month winter Tara retreats, please download and complete the application.
Opportunity to serve: The Abbey is also seeking volunteers to run the office during the winter retreat. Please write the office for more information.

Tibetan Buddhist scholar and professor Guy Newland visits the Abbey in the closing days of the Tara retreat to share his wisdom on this profound topic, and the public is invited to join us.
Professor of Religion and Chair of the Department of Philosophy and Religion at Central Michigan University, Guy Newland has studied with Jeffrey Hopkins as well as many Tibetan scholars in the U.S. and India. He is an editor of the three-volume translation Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment and author of the Two Truths, Introduction to Emptiness, and Appearance and Reality.
