FRIENDS OF SRAVASTI ABBEY LEADERSHIP TEAM

Kevin Conlin - Co-Chair
Kevin first met Venerable Chodron in 1994 while attending a Buddhist retreat in the North Carolina mountains.

He works as a computer consultant assisting businesses in the implementation of accounting software and the like. Often thinking that he could better serve others by being in a ‘helping profession', he has come to understand that he brings care and concern for others to his job everyday.

His involvement with Sravasti Abbey provides a wonderful opportunity to work with other like-minded beings to help fulfill Venerable Chodron's vision of a western Buddhist monastic community.

Leah Kosik
Leah is a longtime student of Venerable Chodron's, having first met her at a weekend retreat in early 1992, shortly after Venerable moved to Seattle. Leah attended many of her teachings and, after completing a three-month Vajrasattva retreat in 1998 under Venerable's guidance, made a serious and lifelong commitment to the study and practice of Buddhism.

Leah has worked for many years at a public accounting firm that almost exclusively serves not-for-profit organizations.

She serves Sravasti Abbey in the area of finance and accounting, preparing financial reports and IRS information returns, processing donations, and coordinating bookkeeping tasks performed by other volunteers. She also serves as treasurer on the board of the Dharma Friendship Foundation.

Barbara McDaniel
Barbara McDaniel is the Inviting Generosity chairperson for Friends of Sravasti  Abbey. Barbara met Venerable Thubten Chodron when she attended a workshop called Bringing Compassion to Living and Dying.

Curious about how to develop compassion and inspired by the positive changes in friends who practiced the Buddha's teachings, Barbara became a student at Seattle¹s Dharma Friendship Foundation in 1996.  When she moved to Idaho in 2002, Venerable Chodron and the Abbey fortuitously became her neighbor the next year.

Barbara co-owns Reiki Healing Arts in Coeur d'Alene and is the Senior Managing Editor for Reiki Magazine International. She has worked in communications, public relations, and fund development for twenty-five years and brings these skills to support Sravasti Abbey.

Nanc Nesbitt
In 1996, while becoming a Master Gardener for King County, Washington, Nanc met Venerable Chodron at the Dharma Friendship Foundation in Seattle. After attending teachings and retreats with Venerable, she took refuge in 1999.

When the land was acquired for the Abbey in 2003, Nanc coordinated volunteers for the initial move-in and early remodeling. She accepted the position of Four Requisites Chair and realizing it was a difficult task to do from 350 miles away, moved to the Abbey in spring of 2004.

She is now one of the full-time residents, and draws on her extensive experience in landscaping and horticulture to oversee "Offering Volunteer Service Weekends" during which volunteers help with construction, gardening and forest stewardship.
