EXPLORING MONASTIC LIFE IV BEGINS
For the fourth year in a row, Sravasti Abbey hosts Exploring Monastic Life (EML), a 3-week program designed for folks wishing to explore their monastic aspirations.
With a cross section of ages and cultures, the sixteen participants join the Abbey community by offering service, preparing and helping with meals, engaging in group discussions, and receiving teachings.
The day begins and ends with practice, which helps the group deepen their relationship to the Three Jewels and become familiar with the sadhana or deity practice. We’ll keep in touch as the weeks go on.

Dallas makes a food offering to the sangha community when she arrives for EML.

Venerable Chodron’s Thursday night teachings on Essence of Refined Gold have the group’s undivided attention.
The group waits quietly for Venerable’s arrival for the Bodhisattva Breakfast Corner teaching. Just click on the video link in the upper left corner of the Abbey website to listen to the most recent teaching.

With bountiful spring rain and a hot summer, the wild elderberries are large and profuse. They are an important food source for wildlife in the fall as they prepare for winter.
If we could see the skies in the Buddha’s Pure Lands, perhaps they would look something like this.

Karen and Jampel, both gifted with mechanical skills, work on a small chipper recently donated to the Abbey for its forest health project.
Robbie, EML’s youngest participant at sixteen, helps rake the gravel on the construction site.
