These retreats and Sravasti Abbey itself exist solely in dependence upon the kindness and generosity of countless people. We ask you to join us and hundreds of others to enable Sravasti Abbey to fulfill its peaceful mission.

Your gift will build the future

Sravasti Abbey's primary purpose is to offer comprehensive training for Western Buddhist monastics and to provide a community where they can dedicate their lives to practice. The Abbey also offers teachings and retreats for the greater Buddhist community. We foresee several projects this year that will support that goal.

• The Abbey is working with Eric Vogel, the architecht who is designing the new temple for Deer Park in Wisconsin, to create a Master Plan for developing the future housing and worship facilities for residents and guests. Costs of the Master Plan will likely exceed $30,000.

• It is clear from the congenially crowded conditions of this recent winter retreat that the Abbey needs at least one more retreat cabin by next winter. This could cost as much as $17,000.

• Several qualified candidates have applied for pre-ordination training at the Abbey, and the initial program is expected to begin later this year. As the Abbey's resident population grows, so will operating costs.

• Contributions also support the on-going work of the Abbey which includes Ven. Chodron's Dharma outreach with prisoners, her writing (a new book, "How to Free Your Mind: Tara the Liberator," has just been released by Snow Lion Publications), her Dharma teachings in North America and Asia, the maintenance of Dharma on the web, the distribution of Dharma CDs, and much more.

World peace begins with individual peace

Sravasti Abbey actively teaches effective skills to make our world a happier, more generous, and peaceful place. So please give: your financial gift, your volunteer time, and your Dharma practice all make a difference.

The enclosed card outlines various ways of giving. We gratefully accept all offerings, and we encourage you to become a monthly donor through our automatic deduction plan. Venerable Chodron and the Abbey residents include Abbey donors when they dedicate their practices and prayers.

Through your generous thoughts and your wish to bring peace into our world, may your own temporal and spiritual happiness increase immeasurably, and may you and all beings be freed from suffering.

Thank you so much.
